ABIGAIL

A SHY GIRL TURNED INTO SUPER SPEAKER

Abigail was no ordinary child. When she was younger, Abigail was extremely quiet. In fact, she was far too quiet. Shelled up in her own world, she often never expressed herself. As each day passed, it seemed more evident that Abigail was an extremely withdrawn child.

Abigail’s mother tried to help her, and visited many schools and medical professionals to diagnose Abigail’s inability to speak or comprehend the things around her. She sought help from extended family in finding solutions to Abigail’s problems. Yet time passed swiftly, and her mother was at wit’s end when it came to Abigail’s development. Was she a normal child? Would she always have learning complications all her life? Could she socialise well? All these worries started to cloud her mind; after all, no parent wants a child’s life to be made more challenging or painful by learning difficulties. Nothing seemed to work.

That was until one fine day, when a friend of Abigail’s mother suggested Stamford Education as a solution to her woes. Convinced by the success stories that had come out of Stamford, she had faith that Abigail would be in good hands. At the age of two, Abigail joined Stamford Education’s weekly learning programme.

Against all odds, Abigail blossomed under the guidance of her teachers at Stamford Education. She began to open up. She began to see the world in all its vibrant nature.

  • AMAZING THINGS I CAN DO

    In this Highlights Video, Abigail shows how much she has grown from a shy girl to becoming a super speaker! Her improvements in literacy are exhibited from her simply doing word associations at a young age, to blending words thereafter and eventually reading The Straits Times. Besides English, Abigail is also able to perform mental calculations and identify many countries simply by their flags!

    THE NEW WORLD OF NEW WORDS


    Abigail has completed Stamford A to Z Phonics Sounds Module and starting her new journey to explore ‘Stamford first words Module’. She is now able to apply her A – Z phonics sounds to read her first words!

    A CONFIDENT LEARNER


    Abigail has now completed ‘Stamford Blending Phase 1 Module’. In this video, she shows how to apply what she learn in the Initial Blends to read new words beginning with “bl”. She is now able to read words like “blue”, “black” and “blast” without the use of picture. Notice the confidence she has when she read out the words!

    THE WRITER

    At age 4, Abigail has completed Stamford comprehension phase 1 module. She is currently on ‘Stamford Comprehension Direct Answer Question Module’ and is able to understand the passage and answer ‘direct questions’ correctly where the answer can be directly lifted from the passage. She feels shy to say out her answer, but with the teacher’s guidance and encouragement, she can finally read out her answer loudly and confidently.

    THE NEW WORLD OF NEW WORDS

    Abigail has completed “Stamford News Reading Module”, she is able to read the news paper on Singapore’s current affairs. When reading about the Silver Support Scheme, Abigail asked why was the Scheme not in Gold. She reflects her understanding on prestige and childhood liveliness in this process. She is reading newspaper aloud smoothly and confidently.

    LEARNING NUMBERS

    Abigail being a bubbly and energetic child, sitting down counting the numbers on the flashcard is quite a remarkable. Stamford Education introduced and exposed Abigail to the Stamford Maths module seems to succeed in attracting Abigail’s attention to recognized figures and patterns in a short span of time. Her ability to recognized numbers from 1 to 20 definitely exudes an air of confidence becoming a Fabulous Counter!

    THE DOUBLE-DIGIT ADDITION

    At age 3, Abigail is able to distinguish 2 digits addition with ease. Provided with the right foundation from Stamford Speed-Count methods, calculating tens using her fingers is a breeze. The support and encouragement from the passionate teachers at Stamford Education is definitely a stepping stone for Abigail to excel further becoming the master of the Double-Digit Addition.

    THE FIGURATIVE GENIUS

    On Abigail’s 2nd year journey with Stamford Education, not only she has mastered double-digit addition but went onto doing the double-digit Subtraction. In fact, counting numbers from 10 to 100 is no longer a doubt of what she is capable of. Abigail’s remarkable focus and attention allowed to proceed learning triple digits. This has path her way into becoming a Figurative Genius she would be someday.

    THE SELF-ASSURED MATHEMATICIAN

    Going forth into Abigail’s 3rd year with Stamford Education, she is able to pull of 1 to 3 digit multiplication equations confidently. With the trainings and modules that she acquired from Stamford Maths module, this gives her a better footing and ready to take on Primary 1 or even more to come. Becoming the Self-Assured Mathematician like Abigail is what Stamford strives for!
